Birds, they fly Jun 10 2009

One of the most popular interests of people all over the world is to own pets; dogs, cats, hamsters and even exotic animals like snakes and iguanas.

It’s a great feeling to be greeted by your dog when you reached home and looking at some fish swimming in a pond or an aquarium when you need to unwind. Great therapy!

However, it’s another story when people have birds as pets –in small cages. I felt very strongly that birds are meant to fly – it is their innate ability and the wings are for that purpose. Caging them and restricting them to do what they are meant to do is liken a human being with a voice but forbidden to speak.

But birds are hard to be spotted. They are usually admired from a distance – when they are soaring in the sky or perching on some branches. How can we have a closer look at them? I supposed that is why we have bird parks.

Cages are used but they are bigger ones to allow them the freedom to fly but within a confined area.

Children are usually very fascinated with animals. If you are a parent and thinking where to bring your children to during these school holidays, consider visiting a temporary bird park put up at Ikano Power Centre, Mutiara Damansara. Be enchanted by some of these beautiful feathered friends –owls, parrots, peacocks and cockatoo birds among others.
