My friends tease me that I have a Billie Jean ring tone but I have always liked it. To me it is an ‘evergreen’ number.
The “King of Pop” had died. Depending on when you were born, we all have our own “King of Pop”. For me, it has to be Michael Jackson because I grew up with his songs. I remember my very first album was “Thriller”. So, you can imagine the significance of Jackson in my life. When I heard of his death over the radio, I cannot help but reminisce the good old days. His songs and dancing moves were the talk in my school and everyone literally want to mimic his Moonwalk otherworldly moves. That was the time when break dancing was breaking the scene of my youth.
His songs and dancing moves had left such a legacy that it would be a hard act to follow for any pop singer or artist. The Moonwalk was a factor in what set Michael apart and clearly in a league of his own in the entertainment world. The impossible suaveness and nimbleness of his body movements made the moonwalk a kind of dance that is totally out of this world. In my naivety then, I actually asked, “What kind of shoes he’s wearing that created that kind of magic?”
And “Billie Jean” is still my all-time favorite song.
Though he may have his idiosyncrasies but for today, I just want to remember him as a guy with a huge talent and artistry and that he had awed me and the world for more than two decades. Thank you, Michael and you shall be dearly missed!

Sad indeed, I grew up with his songs. He is still the best all round performer. His concerts always stunning. His music videos really set a benchmark by putting in stories eg. Thriller, Remember The Time. |
