Most of us have dreams but to see our dreams fulfilled boils down to whether we have a true and strong desire. Jeffrey D. Smith in his book, Focus on Your Dream has an interesting take on the power of true, strong desire.

He said your desire wields a power as strong as your belief n turning your thoughts into things. You can believe something all you want, but it’s only when you fuel it with the power of your desire that you can turn it into reality. You may have a wish or thought that’s not fulfilled, but you’ll never have a burning desire that cannot be fulfilled.

How do you distinguish whether your desire is burning or not? And how do you know whether that desire is a true one? I think these are real questions that most of us are not entirely sure of.

According to Jeffrey D. Smith, a burning desire is one you get emotionally involved with. It’s one that really “fires you up”, not just for a few hours or a few days, but for long-term. It’s one that you get excited thinking about when you’re all alone. You’re pumped up and internally motivated by your true burning desire. You sense its realization will be an expression of your unique talents and potential. “You know that you know that you know” this is something you were meant to accomplish.

Most importantly, a true desire is one in which you take action to make it come true. Doing whatever it takes to make it happen is worth it to you. When you are committed to investing a minimum of several hours every week consistently taking actions leading to the fulfillment of your desire, you’ll get it. It’ll just be matter of time before it happens.

If you don’t get emotionally involved with your desire and aren’t willing to take action to turn it into reality, it’s not a true burning desire. It is a wish – a daydream.

As we begin the new year, it’s good to look at our dreams – are they merely daydreams that remain as dreams or dreams that we want to turn into reality?
