My last blog about unemployment was in June 2009 in which Malaysia was ranked 42 at the rate of 3.7% according to the 2008 World Factbook. Unemployment was a hot topic everywhere then as we had just witnessed the global financial system at the brink of collapse started at end 2008. Now, one year had passed. Is the employment landscape getting any better?
According to a report from Eurostat, unemployment rate had hit 10.1% as of April 2010 in the Euro Area. Eurostat estimates 23.311 million people in the Euro Area were unemployed.
And according to Bureau of Labor U.S Department of Statistics, the unemployment rate is 9.7% in US as of May 2010 with the number unemployed standing at 15.0 million.

Both Europe and US reported staggering figures and this by far has to be one of the worst employment landscapes experienced in their history.
What about Asia? From the charts below, you will notice the fate of Asia countries are not as bad as their counterparts in Europe or US.

In Malaysia particularly, the unemployment rate has remained steady throughout the past one year. It is still at 3.7% as of the latest update.

Will this good trend continue? Or shall we buckle our belt and expect the same predicament to hit us for it is just a matter of time as some have predicted?
