For this series of “More tough job interview questions”, we shall look at this pertinent question:-
Will you be a fit here?
Every organization has its own little culture that is different from others. So, expect some of these questions below that will help the hiring manager determine whether you are the right “fit” for the organization or not.
1.What do people like most about you?
2.What do you like and dislike about your present boss?
3.How do you handle criticism?
4.What is your definition of success? How do you rate yourself in this category?
5.Describe a situation where you personally or professionally failed.
6.On a personal level, what would your previous boss or present boss say about you?
7.Describe how you make decisions.
8.Describe a situation where you demonstrated a high level of commitment in your work.
9.What was the last time you came out with a bright idea in your department or company? How did you come out with that idea?
10.What do you do in your leisure?
Tips in handling these questions:-
1.Share something that would be of value to the organization and people that you are going to work with. To say people like you because you are a team player can never go wrong but it also come across as too cliché. So, do not be afraid to share who you really are but highlight traits that you believe an organization would value. For example, I am a private person generally but people like me for getting things done.
2.There is no right or wrong answer to these questions but watch the way you express your thoughts. The hiring manager is not really interested in your boss but with how you express what you think. Likewise, your decision making process. There may be a good methodology to follow but if you do not have one, no one is going to fault you for that. But, avoid saying things like, “I flip the coin” or “I just follow my heart”. Your level of maturity will be reflected through the way you express your thoughts.
3.Get ready with some good illustrations of “shining” moments that display your high level of commitment and integrity, or a creative idea that was implemented with great success. Stories are very powerful and people believe if you exudes that temperament in the past, you probably would repeat that in the future. So, always be ready with a good story that communicates how you had stand for what was right, went the extra mile or shared your wonderful ideas.
4.It’s okay to tell that you had failed before. Again, the way you express it is important. Have you learnt from your mistake? But try to relate a professional failure and avoid anything personal. You may not want to cite your recent divorce as an example of failure.
5.What you do outside work says a lot about you. People think a question related to interests or hobbies is a minor one but watch out. Showing you do have a life outside work is important. But at the end of the day, you need to show your hobbies will not hinder your professional career.
