In my recent visit to South West, I stopped by Boyup Brook – not the usual tourists town but to me, it’s the most special place because I stayed in this idyllic town during my youth exchange program many years ago. So, to revisit this place again was absolutely magical.
But this time, my foster parents brought me to a place that they said was a surprise. Honestly, I was not prepared for what I was going to see…not in my wildest imagination.
Throughout the course of my tour, I was practically awe-struck by the uniqueness and originality of this place.
Welcome to Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Centre.

What struck me most was the entertainment shed (they have concerts in this place) – you see memorabilia and stuffs that were more than 100 years ago hanging down from the roof. You name it –old wagons, road signs, bicycles, golf bag & clubs and many more.

And there were old records decorated from wall to wall.

Later, we were brought to the record room. It’s essentially the Elvis Room with everything elvis being displayed here. I found out later that Harvey started buying records when he was 14 and then it turned into an obsession. To me, this record room has to be the best kept secret ever…and I’m sure Elvis would be so proud of Harvey if he’s still alive today.

In the open, outside the shed, we have the “rockerina” and the ground for Harvey Dickson rodeo. Again, it is a sight to behold!

Besides the picturesque scenery, the Dicksons’ have a number of cool sculptures with the guitar man and his companions as one of the unique displays.

A full scale rodeo event takes place annually and this year, it will be held from 24th to 25th October 2009.

Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Centre is indeed an extraordinary gem that stands out amongst farmlands and the surrounding beautiful landscape. I highly recommend tourists to take a stopover at this place.
Thank you, Rose Dickson for taking the time to show us around. It’s a place that I will remember for a long time.
