Top sales personnel will always be in demand. Check out sales posts under “Jobs in Demand” in Allyhunt – as you can see, sales jobs are always hot! Employers have cited time and again that the greatest challenge is to find quality candidates to fill up their sales vacancies. Is it due to lack of interest among the bright fresh graduates or misconception that a sales career is less glamorous, buying into this myth - “A career in sales is usually near the bottom in terms of status and income”?
In reality, selling is the highest single paid career in the world. Besides, many CEO’s and top executives started in sales, which has always been one of the fastest tracks to upper management. And the experience in sales is enormous. Warren Buffet, one of the most successful investors started by selling chewing gum from door-to-door. He obviously did not perceive sales job as less than glamorous but believe it’s an opportunity to learn the art of connecting with people and open his eyes to the world of business.
A sales career is attractive especially if you are the type that enjoys meeting new people and new places. It’s not desk-bound and what other career allows you more chances of getting out of the office more than sales.
If you have decided a sales career is what you wish to pursue, the next thing is to find out what are the best sales jobs around that give you the best income and future. The following is a list compiled by Mademan.com recently.
1.Pharmaceutical Sales
2.Software Sales
3.Real Estate
4.Retirement Planning
5.Financial Management
6.Medical Device Sales
7.Car Sales
8.Energy Sales
9.Military Sales
10.Petroleum Sales
Although the statistics is mainly based on the US market, it does give you a general idea of what is hot out there. Having said that, the best sales jobs changes all the time because one industry may be hot now but cold in the next six months. Thus, the key is to get into a relatively stable industry. This can be quite challenging because sales are directly affected by the economy. However, there are some industries that are more recession-prone than others such as healthcare. Pharmaceuticals and medical equipment will always be in demand.
The other key consideration is that sales in B2B (business to business) will expose you to greater income opportunity as compared to B2C (business to consumer) as its project value can run into the millions. But B2B sales may take time to close deals and it’s more complicated in terms of relationship management as most often than not, you will need to deal with more than just one party.
And for starters, you may want to get your first sales job that at least offers a base salary and not 100-percent commission-based. This is to prevent you from losing faith in the sales career too quickly. Give yourself some time to build up your network and when you manage to close your first deal, the feeling is exhilarating and most satisfying.
